Money media only works if it can be trusted. This page explains how we report, where our numbers come from, how we handle mistakes, and how we keep our editorial judgment independent of anyone who pays us.
Our editorial principles
Evidence. We show where important numbers come from — a central bank release, a government dataset, a company filing, a named report. Where we can’t verify a figure to our standard, we say so or we leave it out.
Transparency. We clearly distinguish between:
- Facts — what is verifiably true
- Analysis — our interpretation of facts
- Opinion — a specific point of view, labelled as such
- Projections — forward-looking estimates, labelled as estimates
- Sponsored content — paid placements, always disclosed (see our Advertising & Affiliate Disclosure)
Independence. Editorial decisions are not dictated by advertisers, financial institutions, government bodies or any commercial partner. No advertiser sees or approves editorial content before publication.
No guaranteed outcomes. We never promise investment returns, financial success, or specific results. Anyone who tells you otherwise is selling you something.
Explaining uncertainty. When the evidence isn’t strong enough to support a firm conclusion, we say "we don’t know yet" rather than pretend we do.
Our editorial formula
Where it fits the story, a NairaDecoded article follows a consistent structure so you always know what you’re getting:
- The News — what happened
- The Numbers — what the data shows
- The Explanation — why it’s happening
- The Impact — who is affected
- The Real-Life Example — what this looks like for an ordinary person or business
- The Options — what choices exist
- What to Watch — what happens next
Not financial advice
NairaDecoded is a money media and education platform, not a licensed financial advisor, broker, bank or investment manager. Our content is for informational and educational purposes. Educational content on investing, tax or business is clearly distinguished from personalised financial advice. See our full Disclaimer.
Corrections
We get things wrong sometimes. When we do, we fix it visibly rather than quietly editing the page.
- Factual errors are corrected as soon as we can verify the correct information.
- Any correction that changes the meaning of an article is noted at the bottom of the piece with the date of the correction and a short description of what changed.
- Minor edits (typos, formatting, broken links) are not separately logged.
Spotted an error? Email us at anthony@nairadecoded.com with the article link and what looks wrong — we read every correction request.
Who writes for NairaDecoded
NairaDecoded was founded by Anthony, a personal finance enthusiast based in Lagos, Nigeria, who writes on money, markets and the economy through an African lens. As the site grows, we intend to bring in additional contributors and subject-matter reviewers; each contributor’s byline will link to a bio describing their background and relevant experience.
Advertising and commercial relationships
NairaDecoded may earn revenue from advertising, sponsorships and affiliate partnerships. These relationships never determine what we cover or how we cover it. Full details are in our Advertising & Affiliate Disclosure.
